Summer Camps at 1820 Col. Benjamin Stephenson House

Mrs. Lucy's Academy for Young Ladies

June 25-27, 2025

Young ladies attending this summer camp will discover what it was like to be a real American girl in the 1820s. Participants dress in reproduction clothing similar to styles worn in the early 1800s. The camp is open to girls ages 8-12. Due to the difficulty of some camp projects, we cannot accept campers younger than 8.

  • 9 am- 2 pm all three days.
  • $110 per camper
  • Pre-registration required.
  • The camp consists of no more than twelve girls aged 8-12 years old. Due to the difficulty of some camp projects, we cannot accept campers younger than 8 years old.
  • Hands-on history sessions are conducted inside and outside depending on the weather.
  • Participants get to wear a period-style dress (over their regular clothing) throughout the three-day camp.
  • We provide prepackaged snacks and drinks mid-morning.
  • A variety of projects will be explored such as hand sewing, games, cooking in the hearth, art projects, writing with quill & ink, and much more.

Campers should bring the following items:

  • Comfortable shoes – no bare feet.
  • Comfortable clothes such as tank tops and shorts
  • Sack lunch – the site will provide a snack mid-morning but not lunch.
  • Sunscreen and bug spray – Even though we will be inside most of the time, there will be some lessons on the lawn. The site will have both items available for use on our sign-in table but if your child has sensitive skin, you may want to provide your own.
  • Returning campers, who have participated in past Mrs. Lucy’s Academy for Young Ladies, are encouraged to bring their sewing items (pinballs, needle cases, workbags, etc.) and wearable projects (day caps, pockets, aprons) for use during the upcoming camp. These items are not necessary to participate, just helpful.

To Register:

  • Please download and complete the summer camp registration form and photo release below then return them to the site after payment.

  • Camp Fee: $110 per camper (due at registration)

  • Dress size is needed for each participant.

  • Pre-registration is required and must include a completed registration form (the form may be emailed or mailed separately).

NOTE: If the museum cancels this camp for any reason, all registration fees will be refunded.
