Built in 1820, an important landmark that links the history of Edwardsville to the early days of the State of Illinois
Since its conception, the Benjamin Stephenson House has sought to bring to light the bitter legacy of human bondage in our region and in Benjamin Stephenson's household in particular. As a cultural institution, we appreciate our community and our nation’s drive to tell an honest and just history. We remain dedicated to telling the history of enslavement and indentured servitude in our region and invite all to take a tour to experience our site and become an active participant in our ongoing quest to illuminate the struggles for equality that have shaped Edwardsville and our state since its inception.
We are short-staffed. Advanced reservations are recommended to ensure a docent will be available.
Last tour of the day must begin by 2 pm.
